SILVER GULL

gull

The Silver Gull is a familiar gull seen around Australia's southern coasts and on inland waters.

The adult is a medium sized white seabird with grey wings and red legs and beak. A young gull has brown on back and wings.

Silver Gulls gather in flocks where food is available, near harbours, public beaches and parks. Bold and aggressive, they feed on fish, garbage and other birds' eggs and chicks.

These gulls breed in dense colonies on offshore islands. The nest is a scrape on the ground. The 2-3 eggs hatch in 21-27 days. Both parents incubate the eggs and feed the chicks.
