SEA LION

Australian Sea Lions live in cold temperate seas. They are torpedo shaped, streamlined, marine mammals, whose coats do not have dense underfur.

A sea-lion has an external ear, a blunt snout and long white whiskers. The larger male has huge forequarters and a massive neck. Its nody is dark brown, its head and nape of the neck are white. The smaller female is silvery grey above and yellow to cream below.

Australian Sea-lions breed on offshore islands from Houtmans Abrolhos, WA to Kangaroo Island, SA. Males and females both guard territories during the breeding season.

Sea-lion numbers are increasing and there are now more than 5000.
