GECKO LIZARD |
|||||||
Pictured above is a "Three-lined Knob-tail Gecko". This large gecko is found in dry, sandy country, open woodland and grassland. It ranges from the central coast of WA across the arid interior. The Three-lined Knob-tail Gecko is a big headed gecko with a short, fat tail ending in a small knob. Its upper surface is purple-brown, with lines of raised white dots. Yellowish bars cross the head, neck and shoulder. The digits end in claws. This desert gecko shelters in a burrow during the day and in cold weather. The shelter may be a tunnel it has dug in the side of another animals burrow. At night it hunts insects, spiders, scorpions and other geckos. It can still run when cold slows down other lizards. When this gecko is frightened or aggressive it twitches and vibrates its knobbed tail. The tail is not easily shed. |
