GREEN TREE SNAKE |
|||||||
The Green Tree Snake has no venom and is harmless to humans. It is found in gardens, forests, heaths and woodlands in northern and eastern coastal Australia. It is a slender, tree living snake with large eyes and grows to 1.7 metres in length. It varies greatly in colour, its upper surface ranging from pale green to grey blue to nearly black. The skin between the scales is pale blue. Keeled belly scales give it a good grip on branches helped by the long, whiplike, prehensile tail. When threatened, a Green Tree Snake lits its head and flattens the neck sideways showing blue skin between the scales. Green tree snakes live in trees and other vegetation. They shelter in tree hollows, under rocks, in caves and sometimes in buildings. They hunt frogs and lizards during the day and evening. |
