HUNTSMAN SPIDER

Huntsman Spiders are found under bark or beneath flakes of rock. They may live in houses. Most species are not harmful to humans.

They are medium to large climbing spiders with flattened brown or grey bodies. They may have banded legs. The eyes are in 2 rows: 4 back, 4 front. All 4 pairs of long, hairy legs are spread sideways, so this spider can scuttle sideways. The male has a smaller body and longer legs than the female.

Huntsman are active at night, chasing and leaping on small creatures. A female guards her white, papery egg sac then opens it to allow the young to escape. They stay with her for some time.
