JUMPING SPIDER |
|||||||
Jumping Spiders live on plants. They are small to medium sized colourful spiders that jump strongly to secure prey or escape danger. The front of the body is high. The eyes are in 3 rows: 2 back, 2 centre, 4 front...the middle front pair are large. The pedipalps may be furry and white. The legs are short and strong, the abdomen is usually longer than wide. Jumping spiders are daytime hunters that move in leaps and dashes. They constantly move the cephalothorax to look around and may appear to watch a human observer. Like all spiders, they trail safety lines. Courting males wave their pedipalps and move to display body colours and patterns. A female remains with her white egg sac in a silken shelter. Some jumping spiders can see prey at 200 mm and can jump 180 mm. |
